Dramatic Spa

Goals: Create a spa-like atmosphere in the master bath. Replace the tub/shower with a larger, more accessible shower, and replace the long vanity with something more interesting while still providing “his and her” areas.

An existing two-compartment bathroom serves as the master bath and powder room. The powder room section with the toilet and vanity is accessed from the hallway. The second room with the shower and existing skylight is reached directly from the master bedroom.

The clients requested a bigger, more easily accessible shower in place of the original tub/shower combination. No changes to the size of the room were possible, so, using the basic footprint of the existing bath, a new tile shower was designed to satisfy this request. With natural light flooding this small room, the clients felt that the dark, metallic-glazed tile would add drama. The inclusion of accent bands of glass tile added sparkle.

The powder room features a custom concrete countertop with integrated sinks shaped to create two vanity areas. Adding elevated medicine cabinets and wall-to-wall mirrors gives the impression of a much larger room. Glass tiles were again used to add additional glamour to this room. The height linen cabinet adds needed storage while shielding the toilet.
