Traditional Northwest

Goals: Updating of this 1980’s kitchen with increased island functionality while preserving major appliance locations and maximizing storage was this client’s request.

Adding a second sink on the island brings this work area into everyday use. There is now space for multiple cooks. Display cabinets added at the end of the island and the window wall, create additional storage for tableware. Maintaining the original generous pantry preserved this valued storage area. Updating the door with an attractive etched glass panel door lightened the enclosing walls of the pantry. Using different wall cabinet heights adds additional visual interest

Soft green tile with a classic French country look adds detail to the backsplash area complementing the granite countertops. Continuous under-cabinet lighting enhances this tile detail while adding excellent task lighting.

Special attention was given to the wall cabinets next to the window. These cabinets provide the majority of dish storage. The glass doors with muntins allow the dishes to provide visual interest at the dining end of the room. The elevated bar allows guests to view the kitchen from the entry without seeing the potential messy area at the island prep sink.
